Recent agreements for sports betting in the United States.

In a short time, there have been numerous major sports betting deals in the United States. Scientific Games has teamed up with the Firekeepers Casino in Michigan, IGT has made a deal with gaming giant Boyd Gaming, and PointsBet has joined forces with the PGA Tour. Let's dive into the specifics of these partnerships.

Expansion with Tribal Casino: Scientific Games and Firekeepers Casino

Nevada-based gaming company Scientific Games (SG) has announced its launch of a sports betting program in Michigan. The state, with a population of nearly 10 million people, began its licensing process in early July, making SG one of the first operators active in the region. They've partnered with the tribal casino Firekeepers to make this happen.

The casino, operated by the indigenous tribe Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi (NHBP), is the first in the state to have its own sportsbook. The agreement, signed in January, also includes the introduction of online sports betting and online casino games.

SG's Tribal Strategy

Scientific Games is building on its strategy of working with progressive tribes in emerging markets. This is their second deal in the field of tribal sports betting. They already have a partnership with three casinos of the Oneida Indian Nation (OIN) in New York. The company's CEO, Jordan Levin, highlighted the focus on betting, saying it would begin in the fourth quarter of the year. SG will rely on its OpenSports solution for this. The liberalization plans of the state for sports betting and online gambling played a significant role in the partnership.

FireKeepers is a leading casino in the state of Michigan and the Midwest. This deal supports SG's strategy of working with innovative tribes in emerging markets.

IGT's Partnership with Boyd Gaming

Shortly after the SG and NHBP partnership became public, another significant deal was announced. Gaming giants IGT and Boyd Gaming are teaming up in a long-term sports betting agreement. IGT will provide Boyd with its PlaySports platform to support the retail sportsbooks throughout Nevada.

Boyd will also use IGT's mobile sports app and all online sports betting portals. Additionally, IGT's self-service PlaySports kiosks will be installed in all Boyd gaming venues in Nevada. This will enhance system navigation and ensure continuous updates of app content with real-time data and current betting trends. Boyd could benefit from this in the current crisis situation, as the company recently announced that it was highly affected by the Corona lockdown. Thousands of jobs are being cut, while visitor numbers in Las Vegas are still significantly below pre-pandemic levels.

PointsBet and the PGA Tour Alliance

The Australian online bookmaker PointsBet is on an expansion spree in the US. After partnering with the NBA in February, they've now become a betting partner of the largest US golf tournament series, the PGA Tour. This is a multi-year content and marketing deal.

PointsBet will receive the rights to all official brands and game data. They'll use the media and partner platforms of the PGA to promote their betting offers. Highlights will be sent directly to users who have placed bets via the mobile app. All quote-based content will also be broadcast on all digital platforms of the partners.

PGA Al’s Commitment to Betting

Norb Gambuzza, Vice President of Media and Gaming at the PGA Tour, underscored PointsBet's thorough product offering in golf sports. This should have a positive effect on audience development. The PGA is currently pushing hard into the betting market. They recently made deals with DraftKings and BetMGM. PointsBet is now the third new betting partner in a short time frame. Commercial reasoning is evident, as golf has become an important resource for many bettors during these times. The growing interest in DFS games also demonstrates this.

The goal is to excite and reach new segments of fans, while familiarizing them with the games, tournaments, and media platforms of various sports betting providers.
