Escaping justice for over 16 years. - "Rapist with bad breath" finally apprehended

In February 2005, Lee committed a horrendous act of breaking into his colleague's home in Massachusetts and raping her. The police had no trouble identifying the perpetrator: "He was eventually tracked down through DNA evidence and his pungent breath, earning him the name 'The Bad Breath Rapist.'" The jury convicted him of rape and kidnapping in 2007.

Surprisingly, Lee never served his prison sentence - he had managed to escape and fled the state!

16 Years on the Run

It's hard to believe: Despite intense investigations and a statewide manhunt, Lee couldn't be found. An episode featuring his case on "America's Most Wanted" - a show à la "Aktenzeichen XY... ungelöst" - didn't bring any success either.

Until this week, when authorities spotted him leaving a suspicious house in Diablo, California.

When the police questioned him, Lee tried to hide his real identity. But after some persuasion, he admitted to being the notorious "Mouth Odor Rapist." DNA samples confirmed their suspicions.

The woman he was with didn't seem to be involved; in a statement by the California State Police, they said: "His long-time partner, who he had been living with in California for 15 years, had no idea of his true identity." The police were relieved: "Tuen Lee had been on the run for more than 16 years, and the relentless pursuit by law enforcement had finally led to his arrest."

Lee is currently in custody in California, awaiting transfer back to the authorities in Massachusetts.

The police searched for the convicted rapist for years with a reward of 10,000 dollars for information
