Train railway - Rail disruption in Hesse lamented by travelers group
Experience delays, canceled trips, worker shortages, and aging, overburdened infrastructure: the Hessen Passenger Union Pro Bahn Hessen is raising concerns about a rail crisis in Hesse and is urging political action. Thomas Kraft, the state chairman, revealed in a virtual media gathering on Friday that public transportation in Hesse is in a worrisome state.
Hesse experiences a shortage of transportation service providers, "with numerous trains routinely canceled at Kurhessenbahn due to insufficient drivers," regretted Kraft. In Frankfurt, Deutsche Bahn can no longer assuredly offer the full range of train services & is trimming regional train services between Marburg/Gießen and Frankfurt during evening hours. The requirement for infrastructure investment and staff is written all over this crisis so that rail transport can re-establish its reliability, which is no longer up to public standards.
Politicians must acknowledge the issue, claimed Kraft. "We can't solely rely on Deutsche Bahn, a private organization, to address this," he insisted. "It's time for an in-depth political commitment." Addressing the issue of accountability, he suggested that a committee of inquiry should be established, potentially within the German parliament. "It's been obvious that staff shortages would be an issue for years," added Kraft.
Previous issues in the transportation sector may have even resulted in substantial financial losses, Kraft explained, thus bringing attention to the potential for a legal probe to ascertain the liable parties better.
