Puerto Rico's Del Mar Casino to add high-roller gaming room
Puerto Rico's Casino del Mar at the Seashells Resort Hotel has been upgraded with exclusive areas for high rollers looking for more than just another trip to the arcade.
Casino del Mar’s new gaming area, which the casino calls the “High Limit Pit,” is an exclusive area that offers customers the opportunity to set higher betting limits. Casino del Mar general manager Sigfrido De Jesús said it offers a private entertainment environment with innovative technology.
Multi-million dollar upgrades also include unique attractions tailored to the tastes of the high-roller crowd, as well as an on-site bar. Casino del Mar launched BetMGM Sportsbook last December, opening in December 2019 on March 29. High limit pit in August.
There are blackjack, roulette and other gaming tables in the room, all of which can accept higher denomination bets. High Limit Pit Casino also added 10 employees.
However, POC will ban many establishments from selling alcohol after 1am or 2am, depending on the day of the week. The rule could also force those not staying at Seashell Resort hotels to leave before dawn. Restaurant and tourism businesses are resisting the rule.
The addition comes at a time when Puerto Rico's gaming industry is changing. Earlier this month, San Juan announced it would implement a new Public Order Act (POC) requiring everyone to observe a nighttime curfew. If things go according to plan, there will be quite a few players who won't be happy with the outcome.

Puerto Rico Gaming Goes to Diamond Level
Puerto Rico’s legal casino market celebrated its 75th anniversary earlier this month and shows no signs of slowing down.
The Puerto Rico Gaming Commission (PRGC) celebrates anniversaries and successes in the industry. The report said laws passed 75 years ago allowing amusement parks and pokies had made a significant contribution to the region's government, bringing in $1.4 billion in revenue to the region over the past decade.
PRGC Interim President Jaime Rivera-Emmanuelli emphasized that by legalizing gambling in 1948, Puerto Rico strategically positioned itself as a center for attracting gamblers. As a result, this initiative has resulted in a significant increase in tourism activity. Puerto Rico became the second U.S. jurisdiction to recognize gambling as a legal activity, following Nevada in 1931.
There are 18 thriving casinos in Puerto Rico. This booming industry creates around 10,000 direct and indirect jobs. The revenue generated by these casinos is distributed among multiple stakeholders, including the casinos themselves, the federal government, educational programs at the University of Puerto Rico, the Department of Finance, and the Puerto Rico Tourism Corporation.
Between 2013 and 2023, the government paid $1.4 billion. Casinos helped transfer $620 million to the University of Puerto Rico, $213 million to the Treasury Department and $537 million to the Puerto Rico Tourism Corporation.
