Prosperous WPT event concluded in Berlin
The first visit to the World Poker Tour (WPT) at Spielbank Berlin has been declared a major success. The DeepStacks tournament drew in more participants than anticipated. The champion Dustin Mangold took home over €130,000 after his win. Felix Trau, a fellow German, similarly emerged victorious in the high roller category. The European Championship continues today.
A staggering total of 561 players partook in the €1,500 event, making it the biggest DeepStacks event outside of the US. The initial guaranteed prize money of €500,000 was exceeded, with over €730,000 being disbursed in total. After a three-day battle, the lesser-known Dustin Mangold emerged victorious over Kunal Patni from India in the heads-up round. This was a historic moment for Mangold, with his €134,809 winning sum constituting his best performance in the tournament. Germany had seven of the final nine players, showcasing their strength.
Although four-time WSOP bracelet winner and high-profile German, Dominik Nitsche, participated, he only briefly took part before leaving his seat. It's disappointing news since he also missed out on making it into the money during yesterday's high roller tournament. A total of 13 players took part in this €10,300 event, with Felix Trau from Germany and the Czech Pavel Binar finally playing a short heads-up match. Although Trau had a comfortable lead in chips, Trau held strong and claimed victory, earning approximately €100,000. However, Nitsche could try again today at 4 pm when the €15,300 Highroller Progressive Bounty is set to take place.
No Limit Hold'em Turbo Became Popular
The smaller side events were more popular with the audience too. Participants numbered 104 in the No Limit Hold'em Turbo, leading to a prize pool of about €30,000 from the €330 buy-ins, giving the top 13 players a share. Germans Frank Diefenbach and Marten Haferkorn finished in third and fourth places, respectively. The winners for the first time included Eyal Bensimhorn from France and Massimiliano Pescatori as guests.
At around 9 p.m. this evening, the attention gradually shifted towards the WPT European Championship. The tournament runs from Wednesday to Monday, with 10 more affordable ticket wins available during two super satellites today and tomorrow at noon. We will keep you updated on the progress of the European Championship's guaranteed prize pool of €1,000,000.
