Prop Bet: Will the Buffalo Bills make the playoffs?

According to DraftKings betting, the Buffalo Bills have a -210 chance of making the playoffs. You can keep them out of the playoffs at +170 odds.

Upshot recently updated its playoff projections, giving the Bills a 63% chance of making the playoffs.

The Bills (8-6) are playing their best game of the season but currently sit in ninth place in the American League. Only seven teams from each conference advance to the playoffs, including four conference champions and three wild-card teams.

If the season ended today, the Baltimore Ravens (11-3) would be the No. 1 seed in the AFC. The Miami Dolphins (10-4) are currently ranked second, followed by the third-ranked Kansas City Chiefs (9-5) and the fourth-ranked Jacksonville Jaguars (8-6). The three AFC wild card teams are the Cleveland Browns (9-5) as the No. 5 seed, the Cincinnati Bengals (8-6) as the No. 6 seed, and the Indianapolis Colts (8-6). For the No. 7 seed team.

The Houston Texans (8-6) are eighth overall, just ahead of the ninth-place Bills.

Bills: 3-1 since Dorsey fired

The Bills' offense has looked significantly better over the past four games since they fired offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey. Josh Allen took full responsibility for Dorsey's sacking and played with more energy. The Bills were 3-1 in Week 12 but lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in overtime.

The Bills have been in "playoff mode" since their bye week. They beat the Kansas City Chiefs 20-17 on the road for a must-win in Week 14.

Last Sunday, in Week 15, the Bills easily defeated the Dallas Cowboys 31-10 to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Allen has completed 66.3 percent of his passes for 3,541 yards, 26 touchdowns and 14 interceptions this season. He's no longer running the ball as frequently (80 carries) or as effectively as he has been in past seasons (5.0 yards per carry). But this season he has scored a career-high 11 rushing touchdowns in 14 games. He has four rushing scores in the past three games.

Second-year running back James Cook has led the way this season, and the Bills have become more efficient running the ball since firing Dorsey. Cook had his best game of the season as he overwhelmed the Cowboys with 179 yards rushing, 42 yards receiving and two touchdowns.

Cook has run 188 times for 968 yards and two touchdowns this season. He averaged 5.1 yards per carry. He also had 40 catches for 433 yards and four touchdowns.

Defensively, the Bills are peaking at the right time. In their past three wins, they have held their opponents to less than 10 points twice.

Notes for betting on the futures market

With three games remaining on the schedule, the Bills will host just one home game, a New Year's Eve game against the New England Patriots in Week 17. They head to Week 16 to face the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday. They will end the season in Miami against the Dolphins in Week 18.

The Bills are -12 against the Chargers.Keenan Allen is injured at wide receiver, and the Chargers will have Easton Stick at quarterback after Justin Herbert went down with a season-ending injury.

The final week of the season could ultimately determine whether the Bills make the playoffs. They then travel to Miami to play a division rival. The Bills have beaten the Dolphins once already this season, beating them 48-20 in Week 4.

If the Dolphins lose all of their remaining games, the Bills can lock up the AFC East division title by winning them all, including a win against the Dolphins in Week 18. The Dolphins have -270 odds to win the AFC East, while the Bills have +210 odds.

According to Upshot projections, the Dolphins have a 73% chance of winning the division. The Bills have a 27% chance of a blowout victory.

The Bills have odds of +1200 to win Super Bowl 58. They bottomed out at +5,000 at the end of Week 13, but have since recovered. The Bills are ranked fourth in the NFL Futures rankings and have odds of +650 to win the AFC Championship.
