Possibility of misappropriation - Probe into the CSU district chairperson
Following months of claims regarding financial mismanagement at a CSU ball in Ingolstadt, the public prosecutor's office has commenced an investigation into district chairman Stefan Huber. Senior prosecutor Veronika Grieser spoke at length on Tuesday, confirming that the inquiry focused on potential fraudulent activities within the district association but declined to offer any specifics. Initial reports on this matter were published by the "Süddeutsche Zeitung".
Huber made a brief statement through a party press release, expressing his willingness to step down temporarily as an effort to prevent his position from weighing down on the district association during the investigation. He asserted his strong commitment to the CSU Ingolstadt, acknowledging that "as district chairman, I bear overall responsibility for the CSU Ingolstadt." Given the preliminary stages of the criminal proceedings, Huber is deemed innocent until proven guilty.
The issue stems from a gathering known as the Schanzer Nacht which took place in early 2023. The CSU ball was apparently beset with monetary shortages and a missing sum from ticket sales. Although tickets had been gifted, auditors highlighted several concerns regarding the event's financial management. Consequently, the district executive committee initiated two necessary resolutions on Monday to permit members to approve the executive committee's and the office's actions. This year's CSU ball has already implemented a modified ticket allocation system.
