Harsh court ruling - Prison sentence of 13 years for the Elmshorn fisherman's stabber.
The judge at the jury court in Itzehoe, Schleswig-Holstein, not only gave the defendant more than the eleven years in prison requested by the public prosecutor, but also stated that he had missed out on a life sentence. According to the "Hamburger Abendblatt" newspaper, Judge Johann Lohmann told the accused, "You almost received a life sentence."
Besides the heinous attack on the fisherman, E. was also facing trial for another violent robbery. These crimes were committed to feed his heroin addiction.
We go back to July 21, 2023, 6 pm. Wolfgang P. was at Elmshorn harbor, enjoying his favorite pastime. Suddenly, Markus E. approached him and engaged him in conversation. As the fisherman bent down, Markus E. stabbed him several times in the head with a ten-centimeter knife. One of these stabs was so intense that it went through his skull, breaking off the tip of the knife and lodging it next to his eye.
Markus E. took Wolfgang P.'s wallet, which only contained twenty euros.
Remarkably, the victim survived due to the quick thinking of five teenagers. They heard the screams for help and managed to subdue the assailant - what a brave action!
Angler P. was taken to the hospital for emergency surgery and is healthy today.
Judge Lohmann informed the defendant, "This was an attempt to murder with intent." He therefore sentenced Markus E. for attempted murder, aggravated extortion, coercion, and assault.
Judge believes two elements of murder were fulfilled
Judge Lohmann believed that the criteria for murder were met in the angler case: "Greed and malice. It's a miracle that nothing more happened."
In the second case, which was also heard, Markus E. had threatened a disabled school friend with a knife, pushed his mother down, and stolen 170 euros from a cash box.
