This is unexpected news. - Previously a Bundesliga footballer, he is currently taking charge as an NBA coach.
The Charlotte Hornets have brought on board their new head coach - Charles Lee (39). He has signed a four-year contract with the NBA team, marking his first time as head coach in the world's top basketball league.
Interestingly, Lee has a connection to the German Basketball League. He played here for two years, representing Göttingen and Quakenbrück from 2008 to 2010.
Lee then returned to America and made his mark as an assistant coach. He spent a decade working as an assistant coach for teams like the Milwaukee Bucks and the Boston Celtics. Now, he's taking on a bigger role.
NBA Takes Notice of a Former Bundesliga Star
We're talking about German-American basketball player Isaiah Hartstein (26), who currently plays for the New York Knicks. Hartstein hails from the town of Quakenbrück, which has a population of around 13,500. His father, Florian, was a long-time coach for the local team, Dragons. Now, he's making waves in the NBA as a top performer. Hartstein is currently guiding his team, the Knicks, to the semi-finals of the NBA playoffs.
Lee aspires to achieve a similar feat with his new team, but there's a long way to go. He must end the longest playoff drought in the league, as the Hornets haven't made it to the NBA playoffs in the last eight years.
The focus is now on a former BBL star, Lee, to lead the Hornets to success. It won't be an easy task, though.
