Firm announces new products; expansion plans in the pipeline. - Premier Weil's Journey to China: Tour of Volkswagen Facility

Stephan Weil, the Minister President of Lower Saxony, is going to China in the company of roughly 60 individuals; this includes entrepreneurs and other members of the state parliament, as per the information from Lower Saxony's State Chancellery. This trip commences on a Sunday and is slated to last almost a week. The focus of this visit lies in consolidating Lower Saxony's partnership with the Anhui region in China.

The partnership between Lower Saxony and the Anhui region is about to turn 40 years old this year - a progression that serves as a significant indication on the significance of good relations between Germany and China notwithstanding all the differences that exist. As Weil stated, "Problems and differences of opinion can only be solved if people meet and discuss matters."

The Anhui region is in eastern China, around 500 kilometers away from Shanghai. The population in the region amounts to more than 60 million people.

In an interview with NDR, Weil shared his concerns about over-reliance on China. He shared, "We've seen what we went through with Russia, and it cannot happen again. This is a matter of individual companies." According to him, the ultimate decision lies with the companies - if and when they should invest in China. "It's recommended that you be cautious."

The first port of call for Weil, during this visit, will be in Shanghai. Here, he'll engage in conversations with the city's mayor, along with other people of importance. The delegation from Lower Saxony will also make their way to Cosco Shipping, one of the world's leading shipping companies. Here, they aim to deepen the connection with the port of Wilhelmshaven in Lower Saxony.

The final destination on his trip is Hefei - the capital city of Anhui province. It's during this final leg of his trip that Weil will tour the VW plant. The VW brand has been active in China for close to 40 years, where their presence is highly revered. "Volkswagen has had a great run in China for four decades. But there's a new era dawning - one marked by electromobility and the digitization of vehicles," shared Weil. He added, "The Chinese are particularly strong when it comes to digitalization."
