Internal information about transfers. - Potential Move of DFB Star to Saudi Arabia
Spanish sports newspaper Mundo Deportivo claims that Al-Ittihad is pursuing FC Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen (32). The Saudi team has previously spent nearly 100 million euros on players like Fabinho, Jota, and Luiz Felipe, as well as paying Karim Benzema approximately 51 million euros a year. Now, it seems ter Stegen will be the next addition to their roster.
Ramon Planes, who has been the head of sports at Al-Ittihad since January, may be instrumental in bringing ter Stegen over. Planes worked with ter Stegen at Barcelona (2018-2021). Is he enticing the goalkeeper to leave Spain? Back in February, "Relevo" stated that Benzema's club was interested in him.
Ter Stegen has been the first-choice goalkeeper for Barça since 2014. He inked a new contract last summer, keeping him with the club until 2028. This season, he's appeared in 33 games, surpassing 400 matches in total for the team. He's also managed 172 clean sheets in his career at Barcelona. It's important to note that only Lionel Messi among non-Spanish players has appeared in more games for the club.
Coach Xavi was unequivocal about ter Stegen's status recently, saying, "He's straightforward: alongside Victor Valdés, he's the best goalkeeper in Barça's history. He exudes nobility, personality, audacity, captaincy, and leadership. There are many descriptors. He's an exemplary figure in the locker room and on the pitch, a captain with a capital 'C.'"
Ter Stegen spoke very highly of his current situation at Barcelona as well after renewing his contract last year, expressing satisfaction with his performance, both sporting and personal, and his family's enjoyment of the city. The goalkeeper plans to fulfill the length of his contract, which would keep him at the club for 14 years, and imagines residing in Barcelona for the remainder of his life.
