Possible Paraphrasing: Raiders and Bears Could Begin New QBs in Week 7

In Week 7, the Las Vegas Raiders' quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and the Chicago Bears' Justin Fields will not be starting for their respective teams when they clash at Soldier Field. Rookies might replace them.

Tyson Bagent is expected to take over for Fields with the Bears. He played college football at Shepherd University, a small Division II school in West Virginia. His father is also a former arm wrestling world champion.

Garoppolo injured himself during the last play of the first half in Week 6 against the New England Patriots. While the Raiders stated it's a back injury, it's not serious.

The Raiders have not yet announced their starting quarterback, but rookie Aidan O'Connell could get his second start instead of Garoppolo. If not, veteran backup Brian Hoyer would make his debut as a starter for the Raiders.

Garoppolo experienced injury issues during his time with the San Francisco 49ers and was never offered a contract extension. Despite this, he signed with the Raiders but suffered a concussion against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3.

O'Connell, a 4th-round pick from Purdue, made his NFL debut in a 24-17 loss against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4. In that game, he completed 61.5% of his passes for 238 yards and 0 touchdowns but scored 1 rushing touchdown. He was intercepted once and sacked seven times.

Raiders coach Josh McDaniels is still undecided on the starting quarterback. "It's up to the coaches,” said O'Connell. "It's how they see the best fit. I’m young, definitely just taking what they say and trying to do my best, whatever that is."

Hoyer, a 38-year-old veteran backup, has a 16-24 record in 40 starts, losing his last 12 games (since 2016 with the Bears). He played well in relief of Garoppolo in Week 6, completing 6-for-10 passes for 102 yards without committing turnovers or being sacked.

"Part of being in that role as a backup is you never know, and you always prepare for the best and prepare to help the team any way you can," said Hoyer.

Fields had a rough start to the season, throwing only three touchdowns in his first three games. He improved in the next two games with eight touchdowns, but he dislocated his thumb in the third quarter against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 6.

Tyson showed potential with his arm talent, poise, and pocket presence. However, he completed 71.4% of his passes for 89 yards and 0 touchdowns in his cameo appearance. The Vikings intercepted him once and sacked him once.

Bears coach Matt Eberflus described him as having "good arm talent, a lot of poise, and pocket presence."

The injury situation in the Bears' backfield isn't good either. Starting running back Khalil Herbert is on the injury list with a high ankle sprain, while rookie Roschon Johnson is still in concussion protocol.

With the combined total of points in Week 6 being 12-2-1 (the best in a single week since 1996), the under is trending this season. The Raiders have a points total of 7 in the Week 7 Bears/Raiders matchup, one of the lowest on the board. The record for under is 56-36-1 through six weeks this season.

The popular team to claim the top spot in the AFC West is the Kansas City Chiefs with odds of -500. They're followed by the Chargers at +475, then the Raiders at +1600 despite their better record. The Denver Broncos, unfortunately, are the huge underdogs at +15000.

In the race to make the playoffs, the Raiders have +340 odds, but are also considered likely to miss with -450 odds.

In the highly competitive NFC North, the long shot for the title is the Bears at +4500. The Detroit Lions lead the pack at -550, with the Green Bay Packers close behind at +600 and the Vikings not far behind at +1300.

Predictably, the Bears also have +2000 odds to make the playoffs and a whopping -10000 odds to miss.

If you're looking to bet on the first coach to get sacked this season, Eberflus from the Bears is the one you should put your money on. He managed to hold onto his job for a while longer due to the Bears' first victory of the season in Week 5.
