Following the murder... - Positive update from Slovakia's Prime Minister Fico.

Following the assassination attempt on Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico (59), it seems his condition has improved. Nonetheless, he remains unable to lead the country.

A new two-hour operation on Friday contributed to a favorable outlook for the Prime Minister's health, according to Slovakian Health Minister Zuzana Dolinková (41).

On Wednesday, the Prime Minister was severely injured by multiple gunshots while engaging with citizens and shaking hands at a roadblock following a cabinet meeting. The attacker had infiltrated the crowd of supporters, going unnoticed by security personnel, and fired several rounds close-range at Fico.

Earlier, government officials had deemed Fico's state as "critical" and "very serious." The updated status was provided during a press conference outside the hospital where he is being treated, by Health Minister Dolinková and Defense Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Robert Kalinak (53).

The timing of Fico's resumption of power in Slovakia remains uncertain. Deputy Prime Minister Kalinak stated that it's not feasible to transfer the patient to the capital, Bratislava, in the near future. Consequently, the PM will continue undergoing treatment at the F.D. Roosevelt University Hospital in Banska Bystrica, where he was airlifted post-attack by a rescue helicopter.

The perpetrator, amateur poet Juraj C. (71), was detained at the crime scene and is currently in custody.
