Ponce Plaza Casino in Puerto Rico hires IGT for sports betting technology
Ponce Plaza Hotel & Casino has signed another multi-year agreement with International Game Technology (IGT) in an effort to expand its gaming offerings and compete with Puerto Rico's BetMGM and others. The casino will integrate IGT's PlaySports technology, which Ponce Place will call PlayBets, into its sports betting operations, IGT said in a news release Thursday.
Ponce Plaza Casino has been in operation since 2008 and is a reliable player in Puerto Rico Casino. The addition of sports betting products is designed to take into account the growing demand for sports betting.
The partnership with IGT marks a significant step forward for the casino in expanding its technological capabilities and providing customers with an enhanced gaming experience. It also helps IGT further expand its presence in the U.S. territory, as it has been a gaming technology provider to casinos for many years.
Designing Puerto Rico Sports Betting
While financial details of the deal were not disclosed in the press release, both parties expressed enthusiasm for the partnership and the expected positive impact on Puerto Rico’s gaming industry.
Ponce Place's decision to integrate sports betting reflects broader trends in the industry as more casinos recognize the need for a different gaming experience. The addition of sports betting is in line with the casino’s commitment to remain relevant and responsive to customers’ changing preferences.
IGT's PlaySports technology has become an integral part of the sports betting industry, providing operators with a comprehensive platform. Its technology includes a range of features, including a seamless user interface and real-time data feeds, to provide users with a comprehensive and efficient betting experience.
The company already operates globally and expanded into Nevada earlier this year. It partners with Betfred to use PlaySports at the Mohegan Sun Sportsbook at the Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas.
Ponce Plaza gets a new look
Ponce Plaza Casino is owned by Travel + Leisure Co., a global hotel group.
Ponce Plaza celebrates its 15th anniversary this year and has undergone a $12 million renovation to improve its facilities. Extensive renovations include remodeling the lobby and renovating 69 guest rooms. In particular, the Lola Eclectic Cuisine restaurant and the 16,500 m2 casino are also part of the redesigned area.
The casino expansion provides guests with a new range of services and entertainment options. Notable innovations include the revival of the Viva Casino Bar and now the introduction of sports betting. To attract younger people, the casino has also added a new bar, a vibrant dance floor and an updated live performance stage.
The ambitious renovation project is expected to make a significant contribution to the local economy. Ponce Plaza previously announced it would create 200 new direct jobs, a significant increase from 30 employees.
