Police Report Feature: Car Collision at North Las Vegas Airport
A drunk driver crashed his truck through the security fence at the North Las Vegas Airport, authorities reported. Jesse Romero, 35, was arrested on October 15 and charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, resisting a public officer, and possessing an open container of alcohol in his vehicle. According to local news station KLAS, North Las Vegas police found Romero asleep and slumped over the front seat of his truck with the engine running and his dog nearby. He was said to have slurred speech and a distinct smell of alcohol on him. Inside the vehicle, officers discovered an open container of alcohol, a pill container with a suspected white substance thought to be cocaine, and a snuff spoon. The value of repairs required for the fence and a damaged cart is still unknown. Romero had his first court appearance on October 16, and was ordered to avoid consuming drugs or alcohol by a judge. He is set to appear in court again on November 30.
In a separate incident, a U.S. Postal Service letter carrier was robbed on October 15. The criminals, believed to be armed, approached the letter carrier on North Yellow Harbor Street, Las Vegas, and demanded a master key. They took the key and fled in a car. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is in charge of the investigation.
In connection with the incident, the U.S. Postal Service has offered a $150,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects. The culprits could potentially face up to 25 years' imprisonment if convicted. Inspector Trevor Hudson from the Postal Inspection Service advised the public to be vigilant for any unauthorized checks being cashed or credit cards being used.
A homicide occurred on Las Vegas's Boulder Highway on Thursday evening. The incident was reported to the LVMPD around 11:45 p.m. The crime scene was south of the Tropicana Avenue intersection. The road was closed between Tropicana and Missouri avenues until Friday to allow detectives to collect evidence and interview potential witnesses. The Clark County coroner’s office is expected to conduct an autopsy on the victim to identify them and determine the cause and manner of their death. No further details have been released.
