Terrifying events take place in America. - Police Officer Mistakenly Shoots Elite Soldier (23) in Apartment Incident

Roger Fortson (23) is believed to have been a victim of mistaken identity by his family. The police claim that they didn't go to the wrong apartment.

The Incident

Police were summoned to an apartment complex in Florida by a woman who heard scuffling noises coming from one of the units. The woman approached the police officers outside the building, as seen in a bodycam video released by the authorities.

The video shows one of the officers riding the elevator alone to the apartment in question. He knocks on the door several times, introduces himself as a police officer, and waits. Soldier Fortson eventually opens the door after a while with a firearm in hand. The officer immediately fires, hitting Fortson six times.

Roger Fortson († 23) has been with the US Air Force since 2019, where he was most recently part of a special unit

The firearm Fortson was holding was legally his, and he had brought it to the door as a precaution after hearing the loud knock. It is alleged that he couldn't see if a police officer was actually standing outside the apartment through the peephole, as the video shows him to the side of the door.

After being shot, Fortson fell to the ground and declared that he no longer had the gun with him: "It's over there. I don't have it." Tragically, his girlfriend overheard the shots while they were on the phone.

Defending the Officer

Good to see: Fortson (black shirt) opened the door with a pistol in his hand. However, it was pointing at the floor and he made no attempt to point it at the police officer

The police chief, Eric Aden, defended the officer who fired the shot, stating that he went to the correct apartment. However, an investigation was launched by the authorities to address any discrepancies in the case. Aden assured the public that they wouldn't "hide or cover up anything."

At a press conference, Fortson's mother broke down in tears: "My child was my everything." According to her lawyer, Fortson was a patriot and a U.S. Air Force soldier in the Special Forces. He "fought for our way of life [and] fought for everybody."
