Operations or Procedures - Police murderer's poaching hunting case has ended.

The Saarbrücken Regional Court ended a trial against a convicted police murderer from Kusel. The 40-year-old was being tried in an appeal hearing for poaching and other offenses. The presiding judge stated that neither acquittal nor conviction would have affected the Kaiserslautern district court's sentence of life imprisonment for two murder charges. She told the defendant, "Whatever happens here, it won't make a difference to your current sentence."

The defendant, a trained baker and confectioner who also ran a wildlife business, dismissed the accusations as "bullshit" when the trial began. He was accused of shooting a deer in September 2017 near Spiesen-Elversberg, north-east of Saarbrücken, without a hunting license.

A witness heard a shot and stood in front of the suspect's vehicle, whom he knew personally, on a country lane. He testified in court that the man drove toward him and likely increased speed, based on the sound of the engine. He only managed to avoid being hit by jumping to the side.

However, the judge expressed doubt that the witness's statement contained enough information to convict the defendant of attempted grievous bodily harm. She acknowledged that questioning the witness in court was a very stressful experience for him. The judge then suggested continuing the trial, citing the long time since the incident occurred and the unrealistic expectation of detailed information from the witnesses.

The senior prosecutor agreed and applied to discontinue the proceedings. His decision was based on the fact that the court had made a considerable effort.

In March 2023, the Neunkirchen district court had acquitted the defendant of the charges of hunting poaching, attempted dangerous bodily harm in conjunction with dangerous interference with road traffic, and false accusation. The judge explained that the case was too old to be solved. The senior prosecutor appealed that decision.

During the court proceedings in Saarbrücken, the defendant, now with a longer hair and beard, appeared polite and confirmed the judge's statements with "That's right." The convicted murderer also described his career as a hunter in detail.

The conviction against Andreas S. for the murder of two police officers from the Saarland region was finalized in the summer of 2023. The Kaiserslautern district court sentenced him to life imprisonment in November 2022 and classified him as particularly guilty. This means that he cannot be released from prison after 15 years.

On January 31, 2022, the man from Saarland killed a police trainee (24) and a police commissioner (29) with shots to the head during their night patrol in Kusel to conceal his commercial hunting poaching. The authorities discovered over 20 poached stags and deer in the cargo area of his van.
