Homicidal assault near a pub. - Police investigating a mafia hit squad in Rotterdam.
A murder occurred in a Dutch port city, but the killer's tracks lead to North Rhine-Westphalia. The suspected employer, a Turkish man, was apprehended in Essen.
Earlier investigations revealed that he had dispatched a hired gun squad to Holland on November 23, 2023. Around 9 pm, at least two individuals in a BMW 118i with German license plates pulled over in Mathenesserlaan, close to the old harbor.
The driver stayed seated, leaving the engine on. The passenger exited the vehicle. He carried a pistol and walked towards Nieuwe Binnenweg. His target was the Prestige pub at the intersection of Korenaarstraat.
Outside the pub, a 58-year-old man was leisurely smoking a cigarette. The assassin methodically approached him. His gun concealed behind his right thigh. When he was standing directly in front of the 58-year-old, he fired a shot, hitting the man in the legs. A ricochet hit an innocent bystander who just happened to be walking by. Injured, the bystander sought refuge behind trash cans.
The shooter then tried to leave, but returned when he realized that the 58-year-old was still alive and had stumbled into the Prestige. He aimed at the restaurant, but then ran away and jumped into the waiting escape car. The victim survived this attempted assassination with severe injuries and was in critical condition for weeks.
The perpetrators fled to Germany at 11.30 pm
The hit squad escaped to Germany. The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) stated, "The perpetrators fled... via Utrecht and crossed the Dutch-German border at the Horst border crossing at around 11.30 pm."
Although the authorities identified and detained the BMW owner and the alleged killer, the reason behind the shooting is yet to be uncovered. Consequently, the BKA and Dutch National Police are seeking not only the identification of the suspects but also: "Can you provide information about the cause or motive for this crime?"
The search request is available in Turkish and Dutch; please contact the BKA in Wiesbaden at +49 611-55 18 14 0.
