Playtech opens live dealer studio in Pennsylvania for iGaming B2B operations
Playtech has opened its third and largest live dealer table game studio in the United States.
The Isle of Man-based business-to-business gaming technology company opened a live casino studio in Pennsylvania this week. This is the third state where the company has entered a live casino studio, following New Jersey and Michigan.
Playtech says its Pennsylvania-based live casino began a soft launch on November 28 and the facility will soon be operational 24/7.
Online casino players in the Keystone State now have another option for live dealer games. The Playtech product launches alongside VIP Blackjack and Roulette and is available on the betPARX iGaming network.
We are excited to complete the expansion of Tri-State iGaming and capture another important segment. " said Edo Haitin, CEO of Playtech Live. "We remain committed to providing Pennsylvania players with an exceptional online gaming experience. "
While online sports betting is regulated in more than 20 states, iGaming is still limited to about 13% of the population. Pennsylvania is one of only six states where online casinos with interactive slot machines and table games are legal. The others are New Jersey, Delaware, West Virginia, Connecticut and Michigan.
Growing Market
Of the six iGaming states, New Jersey, Michigan, and Pennsylvania rank first.
Last year, New Jersey’s online casino platforms earned more than $1.66 billion in revenue from remote players in the state. The online casino site is only starting to expand its operations in 2023, with gross gaming revenue (GGR) reaching $1.57 billion through October, up 15% year-on-year.
Michigan’s online casinos, including commercial and tribal operators, will generate total revenue of $1.58 billion in 2022. As of October 2023, iGaming bonuses total $1.41 billion.
In 2022, Pennsylvania online casinos won approximately $1.36 billion from players. Within ten months, GGR revenue from online gambling had already exceeded last year’s. Gross profits from iGaming in Pennsylvania were approximately $1.45 billion from January to October.
Playtech is a betPARX partner in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. This online gaming application is an internet sportsbook and casino at Parx Casino in Bensalem, North Philadelphia. Parx is owned and operated by Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment, Inc.
In addition to its main casino resort, Greenwood opened a smaller casino in Cumberland County called Parx Casino Shippensburg in February.
Parx is the market leader in physical gaming revenue in the Commonwealth. In October, Parx's main casino won $30.3 million on slot machines and $17 million on table games, for a total winnings of $47.3 million. That surpassed Wind Creek Bethlehem, which came in second at $42.2 million.
Parkers Casino and Shippensburg Parkers Casino are the only smoke-free casinos in Pennsylvania.
betPARX Market Share
Parks Casino is the largest retail operator in Pennsylvania. But its online presence represents only a small portion of the state's market.
In October, betPARX generated $4.6 million in online iGaming revenue. Penn Entertainment’s online casino business dominates the industry with over $62.1 million in GGR.
Penn's online casino platform, currently transitioning from Barstool to ESPN Bet, already offers live dealer table games. Live dealer games are also available in Pennsylvania at BetMGM, DraftKings, FanDuel and BetRivers.
