Playtech and Casino Zürichsee introduce a new live casino.

Casino Zürichsee has recently launched a new live casino platform in partnership with popular game developer Playtech. This move comes with the inclusion of a live casino service as well as a variety of jackpot slot machines. Zürichsee, which belongs to the operator Swiss Casinos, had previously unveiled its online offering based on Playtech's software solution just a few weeks ago. This new addition to the platform makes Swiss players the first to have access to live dealer games and jackpot slots through an online casino licensed in Switzerland.

Advancing technology enhances gaming experience

The expanded online casino platform offers access to the entire Playtech games catalog. It can be used on both standard PCs and mobile devices, with players able to enjoy both the regular casino games and the new live casino under a single account. Playtech builds its software solution on the Playtech IMS Player Management System, a market-leading technology that combines intelligent data management and an advanced fraudulent activity analysis and prevention process.

Swiss Casinos ventures into virtual gambling

Presently, Swiss Casinos operates the majority of land-based casinos in Switzerland. With Playtech as a partner, it recently launched its first online casino in the country. Leveraging the new live casino service now takes Swiss Casinos one step further in its evolution. Marc Baumann, the Managing Director of Swiss Casinos, expressed his excitement at this new collaboration stating, "Swiss Casinos has become the market leader for land-based casinos in Switzerland. We are thrilled to be working with Playtech."

Baumann further expresses his belief in a long-term, prosperous partnership, stating, "With our partnership with Playtech, we want to continue the success story of Swiss Casinos in the online market. Their games portfolio, team's expertise, and adaptability to the Swiss market's regulatory requirements have created a strong foundation for a successful and long-term collaboration."

Playtech gains access to new market

After partnering with Swiss Casinos, Playtech will be able to introduce its products to a larger audience. As Shimon Akad, Managing Director at Playtech, declares, "Live Casino is a very exciting growth market for us. We are honored to be pioneering this in Switzerland with Swiss Casinos. Their prominent standing in the Swiss market makes them the ideal partner to launch live offerings in the country."

Swiss gambling market opens up

As part of a new law introduced in January 2019, the Swiss gambling market has been fully legalized. Currently, only gambling providers that also offer land-based services in Switzerland are allowed to provide online gambling services. This covers the 21 companies operating casinos in the country.

The first licenses were issued by the Federal Gaming Board in July 2019, with Grand Casino Baden, Casino Davos, Grand Casino Luzern, and Casino Zürichsee being the successful land-based applicants. Two other applicants were not granted licenses.

Network blocks put into place

To discourage Swiss citizens from using online casinos without a Swiss license, network blocks with geo-blocking are being implemented. If a user with a Swiss IP address accesses an online casino without a Swedish license, they will be directed to an informational page. On their website, the Federal Gaming Board also publishes a list of blocked games and providers.

This measure has been met with dissent, as many consider it a restriction of their civil liberties. Concerns remain that it could also unlawfully block content that doesn't fall under the restrictions of the newly introduced Gambling Act. This concern was highlighted by a petition with 65,000 signatures against the draft law back in 2018.
