"I'm not obligated to complete this task at this location" - Pistorius Discusses His Polter Court Verdict
During a coalition breakfast with politicians concerning budget and defense, Pistorius expressed his frustration, saying, as reported by Süddeutsche Zeitung, "I don't have to do this here." This raised speculation that he might resign due to the disagreement.
Pistorius' annoyance stemmed from the budget disagreement between the traffic lights coalition. He sought a significant increase in the defense budget for 2025, approximately 6.5 billion euros, due to the growing threat from Russia. However, Finance Minister Lindner (45, FDP) refused to authorize additional expenditures and was supported by Chancellor Scholz (65, SPD).
"I'm not planning on leaving anytime soon"
► Pistorius has since clarified his comment. "Let me state clearly: I still enjoy this position, and it won't be easy for you to remove me," Pistorius clarified during a press conference in Berlin on Thursday when asked about his angry statement.
"I'm unsure who the mysterious source is from that meeting. At no point did I threaten or imply to anyone that I would resign from my position," stated Pistorius. "In the heat of the moment, you might say something, but I'm known for being upfront at times."
Nonetheless, Pistorius stated that his discussion with Finance Minister Lindner and his team about the defense budget was "extraordinarily cooperative, open, and pleasant."
