Philadelphia Eagles become new betting favorites to win Super Bowl 58
The Philadelphia Eagles are currently +450 to win Super Bowl 58, according to a recent update from DraftKings. The Eagles are currently 9-1 and are favorites for the first time this season after defeating the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football.
The Chiefs are Super Bowl favorites when they face the Eagles in Week 11, a rematch of last year's Super Bowl.
Although the Eagles were slightly favored by betting in Super Bowl 57, the Chiefs won 38-35. The Eagles gave up a 10-point lead at halftime and the Chiefs scored 17 points in the fourth quarter to win their second championship under superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
The Chiefs are -3 when they host the Eagles in Monday's rematch. The Eagles trailed 17-7 at halftime, but their defense held the Chiefs down in the second half en route to a 21-17 victory.
Primetime game scoring totals were once again on the low end. The total score was 45.5 points, and the two teams combined for 28 points.Primetime Unders are 27-8 this season.
The Flying Eagles are now 9-1 (+450)
The Eagles got off to a 5-0 start, but the New York Jets defeated them in Week Six. Since that loss, they have won four straight to improve to 9-1.
The Eagles have defeated three potential playoff teams on their current streak. They defeated the Miami Dolphins by 14 points in Week 7 and defeated the Dallas Cowboys in the divisional round in Week 9. The Eagles eliminated the Chiefs after a bye in Week 10.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts suffered a knee injury when linebacker Micah Parsons threw him to the mixed turf at Lincoln Financial Field in the second quarter against the Cowboys. The pain persisted during the game and the Eagles said he had a bone bruise. The bye week comes at a perfect time to give Hurts more time to recover before their showdown with the Chiefs.
"He's very tough," coach Nick Sirianni said."However, he was never on the injury report because his playing status was never in question. Great leader, great player, stepped up in big moments."
Hurts is currently the favorite to win MVP at +250, ahead of the Baltimore Ravens' Lamar Jackson (+350) and Mahomes (+400).
The Eagles moved to the top of the NFL futures rankings for the first time this season after Monday's blowout victory over the Chiefs. The Eagles have a +450 chance to win the Super Bowl in Week 12 with seven games remaining on the schedule. They face the Buffalo Bills on Sunday and have a big game against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 13.
Chiefs still close (+475)
If the Chiefs rally again to beat the Eagles, they will still be the favorite to win another Super Bowl. This season, the Chiefs have been absolute favorites or co-favorites to win the Super Bowl in six of the first ten weeks of the season.
The Chiefs are the preseason favorite at +600 to retain the Super Bowl title. Winning the Super Bowl back-to-back seasons is a tall order in the modern era. The New England Patriots were the last team to win consecutive championships in the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
When the Chiefs won Super Bowl LIV in 2019, they advanced to the Super Bowl the next season. But Tom Brady and the 2020 Tampa Bay Buccaneers robbed them of back-to-back titles.
The Ravens currently sit atop the AFC Championship game with an 8-3 record. The Chiefs are currently 7-3, tied with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns and Dolphins. If the season ended today, the Chiefs would be a lock for second place in the AFC playoffs.
The Chiefs have lost two of their last three games but remain the second favorite to win the Super Bowl at +475.
Tight end Travis Kelce is dating pop star Taylor Swift, and it's having an impact on betting markets. Swift was not in attendance Monday, but when she attended a game, the Chiefs were undefeated 3-0.
San Francisco 49ers back on track (+475)
The San Francisco 49ers looked unstoppable as they went 5-0 earlier this season. Quarterback Brock Purdy suffered a concussion in Week 5 and the 49ers lost three straight games before bouncing back with two straight wins. The 49ers (7-3) are the third-best team in the NFC, behind the Eagles and Detroit Lions (8-2). They will play three road games over the next four weeks before facing the Ravens on Christmas Day in Week 16.
Running back Christian McCaffrey is a touchdown machine in his first full season with the 49ers. He scored 14 touchdowns in 10 games, including 9 rushing touchdowns and 5 receiving touchdowns. Dual-threat McCaffrey has 1,189 yards from scrimmage this season, and as long as he stays healthy, the 49ers have a good chance of winning the Super Bowl. The 49ers were the favorite or tied favorite to win the Super Bowl in seven of the first ten weeks of the season. The Chiefs and 49ers are both +475 odds to win Super Bowl 58, as they are the No. 2 favorite on the futures board behind the Eagles.
The 49ers haven't won a Super Bowl since the 1994 season. They have made two Super Bowl appearances since 2012, but finished second both times and narrowly missed out on the franchise's sixth championship.
