Thorsten Schorn succeeds renowned speaker. - Peter Urban handed him something on the route to the ESC.

In 2023, the renowned announcer decided to step down after an impressive run of 25 performances. It wasn't until April that audiences learned that Thorsten Schorn was chosen to take over Urban's position.

Similar to Urban, Schorn has a background in radio (WDR 2) and was honored with the German Radio Prize for "Best Presenter" in 2015. Additionally, he is well-known for his television work, which includes shows like "Denn sie wissen nicht, was passiert" (RTL) and "Shopping Queen" (Vox).

Schorn has already had the chance to commentate on this year's Eurovision Song Contest semi-finals, earning high praise from fans and viewers. Interestingly, many believed that Urban, his predecessor, was irreplaceable.

Schorn shared, "I'm thrilled that fans and viewers seem to be on my side with the ESC and me. Peter Urban has shaped the ESC with his unique voice, and I've always thought his nonchalant and relaxed commentary style was perfect. I'll continue this tradition while also maintaining my own style."

How did Schorn land this new position?

"NDR and I have been collaborating for a while because I'm also the voice of the German Radio Awards. The gala is aired live on over 60 radio stations - even on Mallorca, which I compared to an Eurovision Song Contest experience. This might have been my audition."

Did Schorn seek any advice from Peter Urban beforehand?

"We exchanged messages over the days, and he offered me his best wishes for Malmö in a voice message, which made me incredibly happy. Oh, and the British commentator Graham Norton was advised by his predecessor not to start drinking before the fifth song."
