Revival attempt unsuccessful. - Person perished during swimming in Boberger Lake
On a Friday night, a 60-year-old man tragically drowned while swimming at Boberger Niederung, a nature reserve in the southeast of the Hanseatic city. It seems that he had a stroke beforehand, causing him to sink into the water.
A friend noticed the incident and frantically swam the man to the shore. The friend then tried to revive him and called for assistance. Other visitors at the lake quickly joined the effort and called for help, notifying the rescue services around 8 pm.
Tough conditions for rescuers
Though the rescue teams arrived with a doctor, the man hadn't been found at one of the designated swimming areas. Instead, he was at the tricky-to-reach western shore of the lake, making it hard for the rescuers to access the victim.
Sadly, even when the doctor made his way to the scene, he couldn't manage to revive the 60-year-old man. The man lost his life right there.
The body was sent to the forensic medicine department in an ambulance. Chaplains were there to comfort the shaken rescuers.
