Does Mercedes put him at a disadvantage? - Peculiar Hamilton Discussion
Are you wondering how Lewis Hamilton (39) expressed that statement?
This Monday, the main event of Formula 1 occurs in Monaco - the Monaco Grand Prix (3 p.m.; Sky).
The seven-time world champion, who has triumphed three times in this principality, wasn't content with just that - and made a peculiar remark in an interview immediately after qualifying.
The Briton: "I didn't anticipate being ahead of George in qualifying this season. We need to continue to push - but the races are challenging."
When the journalist questioned why he said he'd be behind Russell the entire year, he slightly shook his head while smiling. Then, cryptically, he said: "We'll see." A slightly annoyed smile then appeared.
What did Hamilton mean by this reaction? Was he implying that Mercedes is disadvantaging him this year because he's switching to Ferrari at the end of the season? Mercedes team manager Toto Wolff has previously stated that both racers will be dealt with equally. According to the Austrian, it's about challenging Ferrari in the contest for second place in the Constructors' Championship. Including Hamilton.
The only point where Hamilton won't be involved, logically, is in the 2025 development plans, as he'll already be a part of the Italian team then.
It almost seems as if Hamilton isn't seeing this as the only instance where he's being overlooked...
