PEARL JAM FRONTMAN REACTS WITH SHOCK TO OUTCOME FOLLOWING BETTING AGREEMENT WITH LAS VEGAS CROWD MEMBER
During Pearl Jam's recent performances at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, lead singer Eddie Vedder challenged a fan to double their investment.
"Here's $500, see if you can double it," Vedder told the crowd-goer, named Erin. "I trust you. If you lose it all, it was part of the experiment, and if you win any of it, we split it."
While the initial bet seemed predetermined, the outcome was anything but, as revealed at their next concert at the same Las Vegas venue.
Addressing Erin, Vedder asked, "Was there any return on the investment? Any at all?"
She handed him an envelope containing a message and cash. As Vedder read the message to the audience of 17,000, he seemed puzzled, "I'm not sure what's happening here."
The note said: "Ed, I stayed up all night but in the end, the casino had the upper hand."
Despite this, the envelope contained $1,500.
Engaging with Fans
Erin admitted she turned her experience into an opportunity, raising money for Vedder's charity, The EB Research Partnership, by requesting donations while walking the concert's merchandise line during the previous night's event. "I already won the lottery just through these experiences," she shared with other fans.
Within 20 minutes, Erin had doubled Vedder's bet and kept going.
The EB Research Partnership, established by Vedder and his wife, Jill, in 2010 supports those affected by Epidermolysis Bullosa - a rare and often fatal skin condition.
Emotionally touched, Vedder exclaimed, "Holy fucking shit! We're so thankful, the whole EB community thanks you." After wiping away tears, Vedder handed the envelope to his wife, Jill, who was also seated up front.
Jokingly, Vedder asked Jill, "Try and double it."
