Dynamo Dresden is replaced by Darmstadt. - Paul Will details his transition.
The lilies sealed the deal on Monday, but it had been a well-kept secret.
After Dresden's final third-league game against Duisburg, Will expressed his stance, "I've made up my mind." Now, his decision has been revealed.
It was clear that he wouldn't be sticking around. On one hand, due to his vocal displeasure with former coach Markus, whose dismissal deeply affected him. On the other hand, because Will had consistently expressed his desire to remain in Dresden only if they were promoted.
"As a native of Hesse, I've closely followed the lilies' progress in the last few years," the defensive midfielder elaborated. "I was captivated by how the club steadily built itself up in the second league and then managed to secure a spot in the Bundesliga. I also saw the strong connection between the fans and the team from afar in the previous season."
Back to Hessen
Will's new coach, Torsten Lieberknecht, is excited about his latest acquisition: "I'm looking forward to having Paul on board and the abilities he brings. He's a strategically-minded six who is fully invested in his team mentally. In recent years, he's been a starter for Dresden and has accrued second-league experience there."
Will was groomed in the youth teams of TSG Wieseck and 1. FC Kaiserslautern before joining Bayern Munich's U23 in 2018. Over the course of 40 games, he showcased his skills for the record champions' youth team.
Later, in the summer of 2020, he made the move to Dynamo Dresden, unfortunately followed by a relegation. In total, he played 129 matches for the SGD.
