Nuremberg's Southern Suburb District - Patrol Car Accident Leaves Arrestees Escaping
Around 7:45 pm, a blue-lighted, sirened Volkswagen T-5 was moving down Allersberger Straße toward Frankenstraße. At the Schweiggerstraße intersection, it crashed into an Opel operated by a 29-year-old woman. Inside the Opel, there were a 40-year-old woman and three kids aged 8, 8, and 10. Thankfully, no injuries were reported from the Opel's occupants.
The two passengers in the Volkswagen, a 17-year-old and a 25-year-old (suspected of a robbery in Pillenreuther Straße), suffered minor injuries. The police officer driving the Volkswagen remained unscathed. Property damage is estimated at around €11,000.
The Traffic Police Inspection in Nuremberg is now handling the investigation into the accident's origin. They ask witnesses to call 0911 6583-1530.
One of the detainees attempted to flee after the collision, but was re-apprehended by the police officer a few meters away. The 25-year-old then persistently approached the police officer, attempting to dodge further arrest. He now faces charges for assaulting on-duty police officers.
During the accident investigation process, a 26-year-old man, who was bare-chested from the waist up, cursed and spat at the officers in charge of traffic control. He stepped onto the road and shoved and hit one officer in the face, causing a violent fall followed by restraint. Two officers sustained minor injuries.
The intoxicated man, who also banged his head against a police car's side window multiple times, was briefly detained before being held accountable for insult, bodily harm, resistance, and assault against police officers.
