Emotional moments occur following amputation. - Parliament absent of limbs and extremities

Mackinlay was met with deafening cheers and standing ovations upon his arrival back at Parliament in London on Wednesday – even from his opponents. The heartfelt reception left the politician in tears.

16-day coma

This esteemed politician had endured a life-threatening septic shock last September. His well-being was in critical condition, prompting him to be induced into a coma for 16 days straight. This unfortunate incident saw him carry a mere 5% likelihood of survival. His wife was instructed to prepare for the worst.

On a fateful morning that inversed the course of events, Mackinlay noticed an odd "blue coloration" engulfing his entire form. "From top to bottom, including my ears, were all blue," Mackinlay described this pivotal moment in a conversation with the BBC. His partner wasted no time in contacting emergency services. Hospital.

The moving reception for Mackinlay

Upon awakening from his coma, the MP listened in on conversations concerning his limbs. "They were black, desiccated, seized up," he shared the currently gruesome state of his perishing limbs. Subsequently, Mackinlay went under the knife for surgical procedures on December 1.

"No point in complaining"

Following aesthetic enhancements to make up for the absent limbs, Mackinlay grappled with losing his hands as the most challenging aspect. Simple tasks such as making phone calls, grasping a child's hand, cuddling his wife, and tending to his garden came under fire.

Mackinlay miraculously regained control of his life. Exactly five months after his septic shock, he could independently walk 20 steps on February 28.

Despite his ordeal, the politician remains unfazed. He emphasizes: "I try to remember that there's not much reason for compliments and despondency or becoming upset that you can't perform a certain task. I've observed that every day brings the opportunity to complete something new."

In the future, he wishes to be known as "the bionic MP," Mackinlay quipped in a BBC interview.
