Parents Arrested after Infant's Body Discovered in Downtown Las Vegas Trash Can

A little over a week ago, a terrible situation unfolded in Las Vegas where the body of a two-year-old child named Jacoby Robinson Jr. was found severely abused in a dumpster. This horrific incident has led to the parents of the child being charged with murder and child abuse.

Reports from the medical examination found that the toddler had suffered a brain bleed and had sustained significant injuries to his head, torso, and buttocks. Doctors confirm that these were consistent with child abuse.

The parents, Diaja Smith, 23 years old, and Jacoby Robinson Sr., 24 years old, are currently facing open murder and child abuse charges. Both have been detained at the Clark County Detention Center. As of now, they are still being held there without the possibility of bail.

The story begins with the child being reported as missing by Smith, who claimed Jacoby disappeared at a park. Investigations revealed that the baby did not actually move in the stroller while Smith was pushing it. Eventually, she was caught on surveillance cameras dropping off the child's dead body in a dumpster on Friday in Downtown Las Vegas.

Additionally, Smith had allegedly engaged in heavy discipline, using belts or a charging cord, with Jacoby and his twin who is also in critical condition at a local hospital. According to KVVU, Smith had previously had her children taken away by Child Protective Services.

Robinson described hearing high-pitched screaming coming from the child on June 6th, while Smith was in the process of abusing him while he was sleeping. However, he didn't become aware of the child's death until later that day when he tried CPR to revive him. During the investigation, he lied about his knowledge of the infant's whereabouts and whether or not the boy was actually alive.

Furthermore, Robinson also admitted to Smith going too far with physical discipline when she used a belt or cord, but he himself did not carry out any physical abuse.

One of the other siblings has been placed in the care of Nevada Child Protective Services. It is important to note that Robinson is the father of several children with Smith and has been living with her for about four days per week.

Shockingly, Smith is currently pregnant. LaSwanda Williams, the great-aunt of the deceased child, talked to a reporter at KLAS about the situation: “He was a lovable child. He didn't deserve that. He was not trash. He was not a piece of paper you just pick up and throw in a dumpster.”
