Overview of Las Vegas Crimes: Incidents of Gunfire on the Las Vegas Strip
A shooting incident at a Las Vegas condominium complex called Turnberry Towers resulted in the arrest and hospitalization of a 32-year-old man named Andrew Warrender last Friday. The incident occurred near the northern part of the Strip and was reported by local TV station KLAS. Warrender sustained injuries to his thighs and abdomen from a security officer's shot.
Warrender's gun, an AR-15-style rifle, had jammed prior to him pointing it at multiple people. He later fired a single shot, suggests KLAS. Warrender then fell to the ground after being hit. The details regarding his present condition were not disclosed immediately. Warrender faced charges of assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm in an occupied area, and attempted murder by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Lt. Noe Esparza.
Near the Silver Nugget Casino, Marvin Lamar Smith, known as "Gangster," was arrested on Las Vegas Boulevard North and charged with murder on June 15. The charges include open murder with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon, robbery with a deadly weapon, and two counts of drug possession. Smith's arrest is attributed to a deadly shooting that took place in October.
The police report stated that Smith had pointed a firearm at Truby McDowell, the girlfriend of the victim, Dion "Juice" Southern. McDowell was accused of stealing Smith's suspected meth stash. Southern and Smith reportedly had a dispute after Smith attempted to flirt with McDowell. Southern, in turn, was allegedly shot by Smith, resulting in his death. The Smith brothers fled the scene on bicycles.
On Monday, Jeffrey Hair, 37, was identified as the suspect in the kidnapping of a woman and two men last Friday. He was charged with three counts of first-degree kidnapping with a deadly weapon, as well as evading, assault with a deadly weapon, and resisting a police officer with a deadly weapon.
During a standoff, Hair threatened to shoot a third hostage who remained in the car while the other two hostages had escaped. Hair was wounded by LVMPD Officer Jonathan Collingwood, who was on administrative leave due to standard procedures for officer-involved shootings. The kidnapped woman was revealed to be in a relationship with both Hair and another man. One victim suffered injuries from glass fragments to the eye, while the woman received treatment for unspecified reasons.
Arrest Made in Kidnapping Case
A murder suspect who recently kidnapped three individuals near a casino was identified as Jeffrey Hair, aged 37. Hair faced charges for kidnapping with a deadly weapon, evading, assault with a deadly weapon, and resisting a police officer with a deadly weapon.
The kidnapping was reported by a victim via text message to Henderson, Nev., police. Hair allegedly took the three hostages to Boulder City, Nevada. Once Boulder City police spotted the car, LVMPD joined in on the chase.
The pursuit led to Owens Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard in Las Vegas, where the vehicle was forcibly stopped by law enforcement.
Upon exiting the car, Hair threatened to shoot the remaining hostage, still in the vehicle. Hair had a 9mm handgun with him.
Officer Jonathan Collingwood, aged 40, shot Hair, who was later hospitalized in critical condition. One victim had glass fragments in his eye, while the woman needed medical attention for unknown reasons.
The kidnapped woman was revealed to be in a relationship with both Hair and a second man. This led to the hostage situation.
The officer in question was put on administrative leave due to the standard procedure for officer-involved shootings.
