Troublesome military maneuver - Over a two-day period, China deploys 62 combat aircraft to Taiwan.

China has recorded a new high by sending 62 military aircraft towards Taiwan, an East Asian island country, in a single day. This information was shared by Taiwan's Ministry of Defense during the weekend. 47 of these aircraft flew into Taiwan's official line of defense. Previously, the biggest number of aircraft, that is 45, was noted on May 15. China is known for sending planes to Taiwan every day.

China's military carried out a two-day practice session around Taiwan earlier this week, supposedly to simulate a blockade of the island. The military drills took place a few days after the swearing-in ceremony of Taiwan's newly elected President Tsai Ing-wen. Her party, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), won the election in January. The DPP government is known for its stance teetering on the edge of separatism, which does not sit well with the ruling Communist Party in Beijing.

China condemns Taiwan's democratic tendencies

In her speech following her inauguration, Tsai invited her citizens to "witness a new era for Taiwan's democracy." According to Wang Weijiang, a spokesperson for China's People's Liberation Army, this stance from Taiwan threatens China's one-China principle. Wang shares strong concerns regarding the safety of compatriots residing on the island under war-like conditions.

Contrary to Beijing's view, Taiwan has maintained their independence and elected democratic governments for decades. Despite this, Chinese authorities have consistently threatened to annex Taiwan, its population being over 23 million people, by using aggressive force. Apart from practice drills by the armed forces, China dispatches fighter jets to Taiwan everyday to display the strength of its People's Liberation Army.
