Orleans slot mix leaves players stung

A Las Vegas senior citizen is accused of stabbing a man repeatedly with a steak knife at a slot machine at the Orleans Hotel and Casino.

Mitchell Graham, 70, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and carrying a concealed weapon without a permit in connection with the incident that occurred the morning of Dec. 31 at a casino off the Las Vegas Strip.

According to the arrest report, police responded to a report of a stabbing in Orleans around 9 a.m. They reportedly found Graham standing next to hotel security at the south entrance. Security officers handed officers a black scabbard and told them Graham was the perpetrator.

Uninvited Guest

Police found a three- to four-inch steak knife in Graham's front pocket and arrested him, the report said. He admitted the knife was his and said he used it to protect himself.

Graham told police he was playing slot machines at the casino when he went to the bathroom and left money in the machine. When he returned, he said he saw another man sitting in the terminal.

Graham said he asked the man to stand up from his seat, at which point the victim took the voucher from the machine and walked away. Graham believed the man had stolen his money and pulled out a knife. Graham said he had no idea how the man was stabbed and claimed he "turned into him".

Other witnesses told police a slightly different story.

Slot error?

The victim said he went to the casino with his mother and saw a friend playing slot machines next to the one used by Graham.

He walked over to his girlfriend, hugged her, and started playing a nearby slot machine. The victim told police that there were only 50 cents in the slot machine, but he put $20 into it. At this time, Graham walked up to him and said that he was already in place. When the victim turned to walk away, the suspect reportedly began demanding money before stabbing him in the right side.

The victim's friend told police the victim was using a different slot machine than the one Graham was playing.

The victim suffered a superficial wound to the right side of his chest and told police he was "frustrated because he had been stabbed for no apparent reason," the arrest report said.
