Distinctive globally - Opening of the first highway brewery on the A7 highway
A world-first highway brewery has opened on the A7, drawing in truckers and cyclists alike. At the Break Autohof in Harburg, Lower Saxony, De Lütte brewery welcomes visitors to sample beer in Lüneburg Heath.
The brewery caters primarily to truck drivers who take their rests at the Autohof, although cyclists and motorists are also invited. Not only can visitors enjoy freshly tapped beer, but they can also purchase bottles of this fantastically barley juice for later tastings.
Master brewer Jan-Hendrik Koch (46) devised the idea nearly a year ago and spent the last ten months constructing the brewing system. With his wife, he put in a great deal of effort, perspiration, and money - “I'm proud to have achieved exactly what I envisioned," he told "Hamburger Abendblatt" newspaper. "The system hails from China and was designed and made to my specifications. Before shipping it to Germany, I was granted permission to inspect the tanks, mashing equipment, and additional components in-person."
An array of beers were available at the opening, including the classic Salzhausen "Barnsteen" cellar beer and the bock beer "Springbock" with Japanese Szechuan pepper and heather honey straight from the barrel. The non-alcoholic pale ale "Falschbier" is also on offer.
Brewery hours are as follows: Monday and Tuesday, closed; Wednesday and Thursday, 3pm to 9pm; Friday, 2pm to 10pm; Saturday, 12pm to 10pm; and Sunday, 12pm to 8pm.
More activities are in store at the Autohof: next weekend (May 24 and 25), Evendorf will host its first Truck and Country Festival.
The legendary band Truck Stop will perform at this festival in Evendorf on May 25th, providing entertainment for guests free of charge. The brewery's new beer will also be available.
