Success! Rescued! Cheered! - On his birthday, Lakenmacher ensures a spot for the 1860 class.
Yesterday, Fynn Lakenmacher, who's 24-years-old, scored during his birthday celebrations, securing a crucial 1-0 victory over RW Essen. This means TSV 1860 Munich will be playing in the third division next season.
Scoring a goal on your birthday is a perfect way to celebrate, and for Lakenmacher, it doubles as a goodbye present. With five goals under his belt, he's moving on to Darmstadt, where they've just been relegated. His goal crushed the Lions' relegation fears completely. Coach Agirios Giannikis, who's 43, must be thrilled with the result. He put his trust in four young talented players from his team - Moritz Bangerter (19), Lukas Reich (17), Michael Glück (20), and Mansour Ouro-Tagba (19).
In the defense, 1860 was extremely lucky. Verlaat from RW Essen hit the crossbar while clearing (62'), and Lucas Brumme from the same team nearly scored twice from the post (63' and 73'). On the offensive, Lakenmacher didn't miss when he had his first shot in goal. While Marlon Frey missed the mark from close range, hitting only the post instead (82').
In an interview with MagentaSport, Giannikis was delighted with their win. He said, "We accomplished what we had set out to do. It was an emotionally intense game. We suffered a bit, but we deserved this victory today."
1860 is opening the opportunity for SpVgg Unterhaching (7th place, 55 points) to battle for fourth place and the DFB Cup qualification against Dresden (Saturday, 2 p.m., MagentaSport).
