Darmstadt's Anarchy - Officers in Dortmund endure assault, require medical attention
A group of rowdy fans from southern Hesse went after the police following a 0:4 loss in Dortmund. Two officers sustained injuries in the aftermath. Even though Darmstadt 98 had been demoted from the elite league, these unruly fans unleashed their aggression.
Bottles flying at the police
Following the last game of the Bundesliga season, chaos broke loose between various fan groups in the parking lots around Signal-Iduna-Park.
Dortmund authorities swiftly managed to separate the conflicting groups. However, unruly Darmstadt "problem fans," as referred to by law enforcement, sought to increase the tension: they assaulted the police force with their brutal actions, such as hurling bottles at them.
An officer was gravely wounded during this brawl as a result of a kick and was rushed to the hospital. Another officer endured a shoulder injury but left the hospital ahead of a planned surgery.
However, the attacker who targeted the police officer may face legal consequences. The culprit was identified among a group of bottle-throwing individuals and was later found on a bus with other hooligans. The police officer's assailant, fortunately, managed to evade capture.
Legal action against four Darmstadt delinquents
Four Darmstadt hooligans (ages 20 to 30) now face charges for disorderly conduct and attacking law enforcement officers. Since no reason existed for pre-trial detention, the Lilien supporters eventually returned home.
