Notorious British Inmate Charles Bronson Owns Up to Engaging in Prison Gambling

Notorious UK criminal Charles Bronson, known for his aggressive behavior and lengthy prison tenure, is currently up for parole after spending half of his 70 years in prison. The hearing started this week, with Bronson confessing to the board that he's been profiting from sports bets while serving his time.

On Monday, during the hearing at HMP Woodhill in Buckinghamshire, Bronson confessed to frequently placing bets during his imprisonment and claimed to have won £1,500 ($1,803). A decision on whether Bronson should be paroled is set for Wednesday, March 8.

Bronson has resided in his prison cell for the past four years. His aggressive past dates back to 1974, when he was first imprisoned for armed robbery. Since then, he's kept a violent lifestyle, leading to numerous altercations that extended his prison sentence.

However, Bronson now claims to have turned over a new leaf and eschewed violence. He's been going by the name Charles Salvador since 2014, inspired by his self-proclaimed role as a imprisoned artist. His new last name was influenced by Salvador Dali.

Bronson is also known for wearing sunglasses everywhere due to his sensitive eyes, which he claims are a result of spending extensive time in solitary confinement.

Criminal History

Bronson is frequently referred to as one of the UK’s most infamous and longest-serving criminals. He was sentenced to seven years in 1974 for armed robbery. He assaulted an inmate while incarcerated, earning an additional nine-month sentence.

He was released in 1987 but was back inside a year later due to another robbery. He was released again in 1992 but found himself behind bars less than three months later, arrested for a robbery-related charge. These charges were dropped in February 1993, but Bronson was arrested 16 days later for conspiracy to rob and possessing a sawn-off shotgun. He was given an eight year sentence.

In 1996, Bronson took three inmates hostage in a cell. In 1999, he took another hostage - his art teacher Phil Danielson. Bronson held Danielson hostage for 44 hours after criticizing one of his paintings. Bronson was given a life sentence for this crime.

In total, Bronson took 11 people hostage while in prison.

Lack of Remorse

Bronson previously admitted to having no remorse for kidnapping the warden of one prison or three inmates at another. He stated that he regretted holding Danielson hostage and suggested that he should have just beaten him instead.

During his parole hearing, Bronson reportedly stated, "There's nothing better than wrapping someone up like a Christmas turkey."

On another occasion, he intentionally instigated a fight after covering himself in butter and stripping naked.

"It was fantastic." He supposedly declared. "I love a fight. What man doesn't?"
