Gatherings - North-based greens push for town hall discussion in Neumünster.

This weekend at their state party conference in Neumünster, the Greens in Schleswig-Holstein plan to discuss their involvement in the government at both federal and state levels. State chairwoman Anke Erdmann expressed a concern that members may not be excited about every compromise the party makes. With half of the legislative term already gone, it's time for a reflection.

Saturday's debate will open with speeches from state ministers. Possible topics could include the black-green plans in the state for Baltic Sea protection or the refugee payment card.

On Sunday, the focus will shift to the European elections and agricultural policy. The Green Party is expecting high-profile guests like Klaus Peter Lucht, the President of the Farmers' Association, and Kirsten Wosnitza from the Farmers' Association. They are expected to voice their concerns about the Greens' policies from their respective viewpoints. Green Party leader Ricarda Lang and Green MEP Rasmus Andresen will then address the attendees in Neumünster.

In 2019, the Greens unexpectedly secured a victory in the European elections in Schleswig-Holstein with 29.1%, ahead of both CDU and SPD. Co-chairman Gazi Freitag mentioned that the forthcoming election in June is not about rankings, but rather the state association usually outperforms the national average. Erdmann added that it would be unfortunate if the party didn't achieve significantly better results in the north than they do nationwide. However, the trend seems to be different from what it was in 2019, which was described as a "climate election".

A range of substantive motions are also being discussed, including CCS (carbon capture and storage) technology for storing CO2, municipal heat planning, climate and biodiversity protection, and housing. These motions touch on a rent freeze, the socialization of Vonovia real estate group, and the potential for the state development company envisioned by the state government to purchase, renovate, and offer affordable rental housing.
