The individuals behind the World Series of Poker (WSOP) have informed that this year's edition will get deferred as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Ensuring the safety of workers and participants is their topmost priority. What enhancements should we anticipate?

Totally Preventable

In the first place, the calling off wasn't anticipated until May. However, since this week, it's been professionally declared, which a lot of people had contemplated about for a while and what many poker followers had currently sensed: The 51st WSOP will be deferred due to the healthcare issue of COVID-19. The event was planned to occur from May 26 to July 15 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

An additional date has not been decided yet. As per statements from Caesars Interactive Entertainment (CIE), the current plan is to defer it until the fall, if not even winter. Despite having promised to carry on with the well-known poker series this year, they currently discern no other choice but to safeguard employees and players. WSOP Head, Ty Stewart, voiced:

"We've vowed to hold the World Series of Poker this year. But we need further time to keep working in our standard manner while also prioritizing the well-being of our visitors and employees."

The choice is a colossal letdown for the global poker community, as well as for the economy of Las Vegas. Crowds of players and spectators frequently arrive at the world's most prominent poker tournament every summer. Due to the virus, such gatherings are now considered presumptuous from a health viewpoint and the event is also being jeopardized by global voyage constraints.

At the WSOP webpage, players are advised to annul or transform their reservations. In the near future, the tournament schedule for 2020 will be revamped and (*new**) updates will be communicated. Stewart affirmed that the World Poker Championship will feature a $10,000 entrance price tag Main Event this year, making it the maximum income pool of the year.

Online or On-Site?

Whether the WSOP will definitely take place at a later date is yet unclear as per the American media. The extent is also indeterminate. As of last month, rumors circulated about a potential shortening. It's clear, though, that at least the WSOP Europe in the fall at the King's Resort (Czech Republic) will be staged as arranged.

The next live occurrence on the WSOP schedule is still the International Casino Championship, enlisted to take place from August 11 to 13 at Harrah's Cherokee in North Carolina. The event is accessible to all players who have prepared in progression. To maintain the interim, a series of online poker tournaments are in the making. Stewart spoke in a press announcement:

"In the meantime, official WSOP competitions will be held online this summertime. We will soon disclose details about an augmented sequence of tournaments that will be held on WSOP.com and allow invitees to relish the stature of the WSOP from their domiciles."

Concurrently, it's indicated that most of the software is simply usable in the USA. In the interim, they're questing for new overseas partners in the online poker sector. Deemed as of last month, the providers PartyPoker and Poker Central decided to cybernetize, among other things, the World Poker Tour (WPT) and the Poker Masters tournament.

A fresh cooperation was forged this week. The WSOP teamed up with the online poker organizer GGPoker. Schemes are underway for the WSOP Super Circuit Online Series to be hosted on the international GGPoker network. A complete tournament schedule is anticipated to be announced ere long. The tournament is scheduled to begin in early May for a duration of three weeks. The partners expressed:

"We're eager to report that GGPoker and the World Series of Poker will be facilitating the WSOP Super Circuit Online Series. Two harmonious international organizers are interjoining. We can barely wait for GGPoker participants to contend for WSOP Competition trophies online."

Ty Stewart uncovered that the series may surpass the incentive pools of every prior aborted events. The reason is GGPoker's colossal reach. Notwithstanding, it's a shame that the majority of live occasions are dissolving due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The United States is now considered the pivot point of the pandemic.

Daniel Negreanu at the table

The Canadian poker professional Daniel Negreanu (45) is a six-time WSOP bracelet holder and a two-time WPT champion. Along with successes of over $42 million, he's the third most successful poker player worldwide and the most successful player in Canada. Ever since November 2019, he's been fervently advancing GGPoker as a promotional representative and will subsequently also take his position at the virtual poker tables of the forthcoming events.

For Negreanu, who's been plotting his own poker series since October 2019, the upcoming tournament is another significant episode of GGPoker.
