Nine Arrests Made and $9K Confiscated in Casino Crime Crackdown in Arkansas

An investigation into two businesses in Arkansas led to the arrest of nine individuals.

The Crittenden County Sheriff's Office had received information about suspicious activities at Stein's Grocery and Market on Arkansas Street and Valero Service Station on Highway 64 in Earle, Arkansas. Following a thorough investigation lasting several months, the Sheriff's Office obtained a warrant for a raid on these premises. On May 15, the warrant was executed, and authorities arrested nine people.

Among those detained was Mohamed Ali Ismail, 41, the owner of Stein's Grocery and the manager of Valero Service Station. He was charged with operating a gambling house. Another individual, Charles Townsend, 44, of Memphis, Tennessee, was arrested for having a firearm while being a convicted felon and holding marijuana. Ricky Howard, a cashier at Stein's, was charged with possessing a firearm despite having a history of domestic battery convictions.

Authorities charged 18-year-old Saad B. Ghaled, believed to be from Memphis, Tennessee, though the specifics of his charges are yet to be disclosed. Additionally, Ruthie Oliver, Raiah Ladelle Smith, Lisa Brooks, Daryl Mckenzie, and Annie Henderson were arrested and charged with using gambling devices.

These cases are currently under review by local prosecutors. The Sheriff's Office may make further arrests in connection with this case.

In Nevada, a worker at the Wendover Nugget Casino reached a plea deal that saw her charges reduced.

Maria E. Hernandez Perez, 51, entered a plea of no contest to petty larceny in Elko Justice Court on May 15. She had initially been charged with conspiracy to embezzle and/or theft. The details of the embezzlement were not immediately available.

Hernandez Perez received a suspended jail sentence of five days, ordered by Judge Randall Soderquist. She is also required to pay $132.50 in restitution to the casino and stay out of legal trouble for six months.

Two other individuals, Erika Collazo Gonzales and Maria Hernandez Perez, were also taken into custody earlier in May in relation to the thefts. Their cases are still pending in court.
