Lufthansa initiates a lawsuit. - Newly-applied climate stickers amount to 740,000 euros.
The airline Lufthansa is seeking compensation of 740,000 euros for the disruptions caused by climate activists blocking airports. Despite their demands, no one has paid, leading to a legal pursuit by Eurowings on behalf of the entire Lufthansa Group (LH, Eurowings, and Swiss).
Through a statement, Eurowings announced they sent a letter to the responsible entities requesting payment, however, all of them have protested against this demand. In response, the airline is now preparing a lawsuit in court.
Last year, Lufthansa Group flights faced disturbances due to blockades at three German airports: Hamburg, Düsseldorf, and Berlin-Brandenburg. Particularly, this included situations where flying was halted at Hamburg on July 13, 2023, where 57 Lufthansa Group flights had to be cancelled and 8,500 passengers were affected, leading to damages amounting to 400,000 euros. Düsseldorf Airport also experienced similar disruptions on the same day, with 24 flights affected and 3,000 passengers dealing with these delays at a cost of 220,000 euros. In November 2022, at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport, 35 flights and 5,000 passengers were impacted. For their part in the disturbances, six activists were to pay a collective sum of 120,000 euros.
