Leaping Contest in Hamburg - New funds for Dagobertshausen.
The runner-up at the European Championships with his horse My Prins (12), managed to complete the fastest clear round. Surprisingly, 18 pairs had already qualified for the jump-off with clear rounds at the first highlight of the annual event. "I don't think it was too easy," commented Volker Wulff (67), the person in charge of the Derby. "We had excellent conditions, as well as top riders and horses. But I heard course designer Frank Rothenberger clear his throat a few times..."
It's clear that Will (the runner-up) will do even better on Saturday (3 p.m., NDR) in the Grand Prix which has a prize pool of 250,000. Since this competition was also the qualifier for the most expensive jumping competition of the week.
"I knew it would go a bit faster. And that we left some space here and there," said Will after testing his nerves. "I could have ridden more beautifully. I'm all the happier that it was enough."
Will received 20,000 euros in prize money for his accomplishment, and he took this opportunity to buy himself a Father's Day beer, even though he doesn't have any children.
My Prins, on the other hand, was calm and enjoyed some fresh grass from the Derby arena during the award ceremony...
