New England Patriots fan killed after brawl at Gillette Stadium
UPDATE: A Patriots fan who died at Gillette Stadium may not have died from his injuries, but a "medical issue" may have been to blame, local prosecutors say. Further testing is needed to determine the cause of death. However, his family was unaware of any previous illnesses. He was punched in the face during a melee between fans of the game.
Previous post: A New England Patriots fan attending Sunday's game died after being struck during a fight at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. A Miami Dolphins fan apparently got involved in the controversy.
The victim was unconscious. Paramedics tried to revive him for about ten minutes. He was taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital, where he later died.
The victim was identified as Dale Mooney, 53, of Newmarket, New Hampshire. He has been a season ticket holder for 30 years and a lifelong Patriots fan. News reports showed him wearing a Patriots jersey during the game.
Multiple police officers and security forces responded to Detachment 308-309 and broke up the fight.
The argument began around 11 p.m. in the fourth quarter of the game, according to Rhode Island TV station WJAR Providence.
The death was investigated by Massachusetts State Police and the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office. No charges had been filed as of Tuesday evening.
David Procopio, a spokesman for the Massachusetts State Police, told the Foxborough Reporter that police are investigating "the facts and circumstances surrounding the man's death, including the sequence of events leading to the medical malpractice."
An autopsy was performed on the victim on Tuesday. The results were not immediately released.
The victim's wife, Lisa Mooney, told Boston television station WCVB that her husband was angered by the other participants.
He went to the game with three friends. An argument ensued, during which a man allegedly punched Mooney three times in the head.

"It takes a lot to make him angry," Lisa Mooney added of her husband.
"He had the patience of a saint. I don't know what happened."
He had no previous illnesses.

An unnamed witness told Boston TV station WBTS, "The victim was hit hard on the side of the head and fell to the ground. He was a bigger guy, but he just fell."
Another attendee, Devyn Kirwin, told WJAR he was "shocked." Everyone in the area has to move. "
"Especially knowing that this was happening right behind me and there was nothing I could do about it," Kirwan added.
The incident also prompted Gillette Stadium officials to issue a statement.
"We are heartbroken to learn of the tragic passing of Dale Mooney..." the statement read.
We continue to work with local authorities to assist with their ongoing investigations. Our sincerest sympathies and heartfelt condolences go out to Dale's family and all who mourn his loss. "
At the end of the game, the Dolphins defeated the Patriots 24-17.
