Flick appoints Tapalovic to Barça. - New coach arranged for ter-Stegen's team
Friends reunited: Bayern's former goalkeeper coach joins Barca
Long-time buddies of Bayern München's goalkeeper Manuel Neuer (38) are reconnecting - under the leadership of Hansi Flick, former Bayern player and current Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen (32) is about to work closely with Toni Tapalovic again. Unlike during his time at Bayern (2011-2023), Tapalovic won't just be focusing on goalkeepers in Catalonia. In his new role, he'll be working as a co-trainer for Flick himself.
Tapalovic and Neuer have a shared history at Bayern (2019-2021), where they achieved great success together, winning a total of seven titles. During the coronavirus-shortened 2019/20 season, Tapalovic played a crucial role in Bayern's record-breaking campaign, where the team won every domestic title and competed in the UEFA Champions League. He handled match analyses for Flick, was close to the team, and even prepared standard situations. It's safe to say that Tapalovic held a position of trust within the Bayern coaching staff.
Following his success at Bayern, Tapalovic left his post suddenly and surprisingly. This came as a considerable shock to Neuer, who said in an interview that it felt like his heart was being ripped out. The entire Bayern squad was also reportedly taken aback by the development.
In a rare situation for Tapalovic, his contract with Bayern was still valid, resulting in discussions over his transfer to Barcelona, where he'll now serve as a co-trainer.
