Nevada Operations of Olympia Gaming Suffer Cyber Attack
It appears that Olympia Gaming's two northern Nevada establishments experienced a malicious cyber intrusion this week.
Details currently remain obscure, but it's been established that Olympia Gaming manages two properties: Casino Fandango in Carson City and Legends Bay Casino in Sparks.
Casino Fandango boasts over 700 slot machines, 10 table games, a high-limit room, and a sportsbook. On the other hand, Legends Bay Casino features various slot and video poker machines, 10 table games, and a Circa Sports sportsbook.
Event Delays
Several activities at Legends Bay were deferred, such as Wednesday night's line-dancing at the Bandwagon.
Following the attack, Olympia Gaming enlisted the services of a national cybersecurity expert to probe the breach and also reinforced its online security systems, as per Nevada TV station KOLO. In a declaration, Olympia Gaming intends to restore normal operations promptly, according to Nevada TV station KRNV.
The company emphasized the importance of its guests' and employees' safety and well-being.
Moreover, the company has yet to disclose whether customer data was jeopardized by the hack.
No information is available as to whether the breach was traced back to a known hacking group.
Olympia Gaming is stationed in Las Vegas. Founded in 2005, Olympia Gaming is a division of Olympia Companies.
Past Cyber Attacks
Other gaming venues have been subject to cyber-attacks in recent times
In April, Washington State’s Swinomish Casino and Lodge reopened post an approximately three-week closure due to a “cybersecurity incident.” Limited information was disclosed regarding the problems, although it was assumed that internet service at the gaming venue was affected, according to Washington State TV station KIRO.
Additionally, last September, MGM Resorts International experienced a roughly week-long outage of its internal cybersecurity and data systems after a hack conducted by Scattered Spider. MGM did not part with any money to the hackers, but it sustained a $100M blow to its third-quarter earnings and $10M in one-time expenses.
During the MGM attack, Scattered Spider also reportedly extorted tens of millions of dollars from Caesars Entertainment, according to Bloomberg News.
Moreover, Rivers Casino Des Plaines in Illinois also suffered a cyber-attack around August 12. Data related to some patrons and employees, such as names, contacts, driver's license and government ID numbers, and potentially financial information, was stolen.
