Nevada man sentenced to prison for casino bar brawl

A man who beat a woman during a bar fight at a Nevada casino this week was sentenced to at least two years in prison.

Larry Lee Burns, 48, was ordered to serve 24 to 60 months in state prison. His sentencing began immediately. He was found guilty following a criminal trial stemming from a November 2021 attack in Stateleigh, Nevada.

The unnamed victim, who testified in court on Monday, suffered a broken upper jaw and lost two teeth in the casino attack.

He said I was involved in the fight, but he looked at me before he hit me," she testified, according to Record Courier News. "He knew what he was doing. "

The incident began with an argument between two groups. But when the group, including the victim, tried to leave, Burns followed them. A man in the group of victims told Burns to go away, but Burns ignored him. The man then hit Burns.

The woman stood between the two fighting men and Burns attacked her. Burns also assaulted the man.

The fight took place at a bar at the former Hard Rock Casino. It is now known as the Lake Tahoe Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino. The property was sold earlier this year.

Surveillance Video

The fight was captured on the casino's video surveillance cameras. The video has been described as key evidence in the trial.

"This video is important because it answers the question of whether it was intentional," Douglas County District Court Judge Thomas Gregory said at the trial.

Officials also granted Burns three days of immunity from prosecution because he was already in jail after his arrest.

It was unclear whether Burns or another man was injured in the confrontation.

Chin Injury Explanation

According to the Oral Surgery website, victims' painful upper jaw injuries can cause a variety of symptoms and often require surgery. Patients may have their jaws wired shut for up to two months to allow them to heal.

These injuries can also cause patients to lose the ability to fit their teeth together correctly, which is called malocclusion.

Other possible symptoms include:

  • Numbness and misalignment of jaw
  • Nosebleed
  • Bruises around the eyes
  • Bruises and irregular shapes around the nose
