Nevada Casino Robbery Led to Officer Shooting by Suspect, Police Confirm
A couple of robbers targeted the C.O.D. Casino in Minden, Nevada on Friday morning, as per the claims made by the law enforcement. Shortly after the heist, one of them opened fire at a police officer.
Although the cop escaped injury, a quite significant number of bullets hit his patrol car, claimed the Nevada-based TV station KRNV.
Both criminals were eventually arrested and hauled into custody.
The police disclosed that these two burglars had originally struck the gambling establishment at 4:57 a.m., without mentioning the amount stolen from the casino.
Yet, they did confirm that the suspects carried weapons during the robbery.
The casino employees promptly contacted the local authorities.
Notably, a Deputy Sheriff caught sight of their vehicle. One of the thieves then retaliated by opening fire on the officer. Remarkably, the deputy managed to stay unharmed.
After fleeing the scene, each thief was unexpectedly seized at approximately 6:30 a.m. on County Road in Minden. Andrew Toomey, aged 43, from Carson City, Nevada was found at a nearby residence, where he was hiding. Chase Henderson, 33, from Minden had managed to hide in a different yard.
Subsequently, they were taken into custody around 6:30 a.m. and held at the Douglas County Jail in Minden by the evening.
Both suspects were being charged with robbery under the influence of a lethal weapon. In addition to these charges, Henderson was accused of attempting to harm a cop and battering an officer.
Their cases would be handed over to the local prosecutors. If they were found guilty in the court, each offender might face a lengthy spell in prison.
The casino employees shared their statements about the burglary with the police.
Some prior convictions surfaced about Henderson from a background check. The newspaper The Record Courier revealed that he had already spent time in a Nevada prison for robbery. He had been received a term of 30-120 months of incarceration in 2008 for that particular incident and was granted parole in 2013.
Another individual, Toomey, had previously also spent some time in prison, but more information regarding his sentence was not immediately available.
While the investigation continued on Friday, members of Douglas County SWAT team acted on a manhunt for the duo.
Residents in a specific area received instructions to remain indoors as police scoured the zones for the suspects.
Additionally, several law enforcement agencies including the Carson City deputies and Nevada State Police were helping out in these investigations.
