The Super Series carries on commencing from today. - Netflix alters the narrative of "Bridgerton".
Penelope Featherington, portrayed by Nicola Coughlan at 37 years old, and Colin Bridgerton, played by Luke Newton at 31, may have the chance to come together, that is, if Colin's sudden appearance in the scene doesn't spoil it.
The spotlight shines on Penelope and Colin's romantic journey, but it's been thrown for a loop by the streaming giant Netflix due to the addition of a male character that doesn't exist in the books that served as the show's inspiration.
Please exercise caution, as the following contains spoilers! If you don't want to know who the new character joining "Bridgerton" is, look no further!
Penelope, the youngest Featherington daughter, has been hunted for marriage by her mother for three years now. But Penelope has loved Colin, her neighbor since childhood, in secret - and he just sees her as a close friend.
Things get more thrilling when the new character "Lord Debling" (Sam Phillips, 39) steps in, pursues Penelope, and sparks Colin's flirtatious intentions towards Lord Debling's girlfriend. Lord Debling, similar to Colin Bridgerton, is a wealthy individual who loves to spend time in nature.
After sharing a passionate kiss with Colin, Penelope finds herself fighting a whirlwind of feelings. She is now faced with a tough decision: does she follow her heart and take a risk with Colin? Or does she use her reasoning and go through with marrying Lord Debling?
Netflix made a change in the season's timeline
The addition of Lord Debling is not the only alteration made by streaming titan Netflix. According to the books, Colin and Penelope have yet to have their turn. Colin's brother Benedict (Luke Thompson, 35) found love in the third installment of the book series.
Bridgerton producer Jess Brownell shared her reasoning behind the decision in an interview with "Variety": "We just feel that it's Colin and Penelope's turn. We've been following these two characters since the first season. Instead of cooling things down, we've decided to add some heat to the situation."
