"I'm not acquainted with him, but..." - Nagelsmann listened to rumors about Kompany.
In the DFB-Pokal final, numerous significant figures will convene at the Olympiastadion in Berlin to witness the game between Bayer Leverkusen and Kaiserslautern.
Prior to the commencement of the match, Nagelsmann will be questioned by ARD. The previous Bayern coach will also discuss Vincent Kompany, the planned new trainer of the title holders.
Nagelsmann says: "I'm not particularly familiar with him, either personally or professionally. But I hope he experiences much success. I've heard he's a terrific coach. He's learned a lot from great trainers who've mentored him. So he'll be successful."
He also elucidates: "The club is going through a period of transformation. It's beneficial for the club that they didn't triumph last season. A novice coach can now make more adjustments if they haven't triumphed."
Former professional Bastian Schweinsteiger, when queried about the appointment half a year earlier: "I would have thought: This can't be! But Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge have a close bond with Pep Guardiola. He has tremendous respect for Vincent Kompany. I can envision that there was contact."
During the Pokal final, the national coach will observe three of his national players, Florian Wirtz, Jonathan Tah, and Robert Andrich, who he has proposed for the EM squad.
About Wirtz, he comments: "I believe he's very active in Leverkusen. He needs to demonstrate that here as well. He's incredibly diligent, sometimes too diligent. In the competition, it's crucial that he reserves his best for the most critical moments."
Nagelsmann also extols Xabi Alonso in laudatory terms: "Following this season, there's no longer any room for doubt. Truly exceptional. He had solutions in every clash. He has unwavering faith in his squad."
The national coach also discloses that he has already inquired of certain Leverkusen players regarding what makes Alonso so exceptional. "I asked some players what makes him so extraordinary. They couldn't really put it into words. He encourages them to win each game. He acquired this trait in Madrid. This trait is exceptional."
