Host Nazan Eckes - My dad's passing transformed my life.
Nazan Eckes returned to RTL after a 20-year absence. She had to handle her father's death, who passed away from a long Alzheimer's illness. Additionally, she experienced the end of her marriage to Julian Khol and two children. In late 2022, she published a Turkish cookbook containing her mom's recipes and chose to move to Mallorca. She presented a new fashion line with Maison Ju earlier this year.
Nazan Eckes' bond with her father
Her significant life change is attributed to her father's death. During an interview with GALA, she shared, "After my father's death, I now know more about who I am and where I belong. My Turkish roots have always been present, but I couldn't fully express them. I adore Turkey and its people, and I feel a natural connection to my roots."
Despite the strong bond and deep affection, there were some disagreements between them. Eckes admitted, "We loved each other immensely, but we often argued. We talked through everything, though."
Throughout her career in television for 25 years, Eckes recognized the importance of following her aspirations. Her father desperately wanted her to relax and untangle herself from the chaos of the industry. "My father despised everything loud and obtrusive. Though, sometimes you simply must be loud and obtrusive," she joked.
They had a strong relationship, with many people referring to her as 'Daddy's girl.' She also acknowledged the influence of her mother and siblings, but her father had a considerable impact on her life.
During her time in Germany, she prioritized her career in broadcasting, often against her father's wishes. As she opened up during the interview, "My father wished we could be less noisy and more peaceful. But that's not possible when you've worked in television for a quarter-century."
